Bing’s Commerical on The Daily Show

As part of Bing’s initial market rollout, Microsoft ran this ad on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. This really shouldn’t surprise anyone because Microsoft has allocated approximately $80 to $100 million in radio, online, TV, and print advertisement in the United States for Bing’s debut launch into the search engine market.




At the time when this ad was aired, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart was averaging approximately 2 million viewers per night. What made this commercial unique is that it allowed the viewer to watch more of their favorite TV show, while still advertising their name.

According to the Cable Television Advertising Bureau, Comedy Central is the fourth most frequently watched cable network in the United States for families with an annual income of $75,000 or greater in America. The audience composition of the Daily show is estimated to be about 60 percent males, 40 percent females. And the majority of the viewers of the show are males between 18 and 49 years old.

It is estimated that a 30 second commercial spot on The Daily Show would cost $30,000. The ad ran for approximately 40 seconds in addition to an extra 2 minutes of the show for the viewer. Therfore, the Bing commercial cost approximately $160,000 to air this ad on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

This was just one of the many marketing strategies that Bing utilized as part of its product launch.
