Prior to Bing search, Microsoft Live Search was consistently in a losing battle for market shares compared to the Google Search Engine. So the fact that Bing search was able to grab market shares during its early inception should be good news for the Microsoft Corporation. In May 2009, prior to the release of Bing, Microsoft’s U.S. market share in search queries was down to 5%, while at the same time Google’s share in search queries had reached 60.1%, according to comScore.
In the past few weeks, Bing has been slowly gaining ground on Google. From the table above we can see that Bing currently retains about 12.1% of all daily search results.
In the point of view of the Microsoft Search division, the fact that Bing was able to grab 4% market share in its initial launch week and double its market share in the first month in the U.S search market is a good sign.
